    The program provides ongoing professional development and opportunities to perform and teach in concert halls, public schools, college campuses, and throughout local communities. The program reflects the belief that today's artists require both the ability to perform at the highest level and the capacity to give back to the community, inspiring the next generation of quality musicians and music lovers.

    • • Nurture the finest young professional performing musicians
    • • Enable these musicians to:
      • º fulfill their own talent as performers
      • º make a contribution to their community and to the future of music
    • • Serve the music field by developing a broader definition of the musician's evolving role in society and by creating a standard for how musicians can interact with their communities
    • • Support the delivery of top-quality music education in the New York City public school system

    Values

    • • The Academy is a professional program built upon the premise that its participants are a community of learners. Fellows are expected to take ownership of their learning and to be open-minded and flexible as they meet challenges.
    • • The Academy helps fellows develop their capacity for performing, leadership, education, and advocacy, thus embracing the concept of artist-as-citizen.
    • • The Academy believes that the totality of the fellows’ experience in the program advances their level of performance and artistry and that the training, support, and tools provided to the fellows will allow each of them to define an individual path after leaving the program.

    Through their artistry, after two years in The Academy Fellows will:

    • • Be intentional, appropriate, aspirational, and innovative in all settings
    • • Develop a skill set and repertoire to effective engage and education all audiences in all occasions
    • • Articulate, advocate, and embody a personal belief system
