Through its alumni, The Academy has expanded its activities to national and international audiences. Alumni, who now number 45 and will total 65 by next year, performed during the 2009–2010 season at Germany’s Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to sold-out audiences, as well as at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, where they were warmly received. Both venues have invited Academy fellows back to perform during the 2010–2011 season.
This season, alumni traveled to Aviles, Spain, for a residency in partnership with the new Niemeyer Center, and to Abu Dhabi for performance and education events with the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival. Future residencies are being planned in Iceland, South Africa, India, and Mexico.
