Thomas Cabaniss was born in Charleston, South Carolina. A composer and educator, Cabaniss writes for opera, theater, dance, film, and the concert stage. Cabaniss’s concert music has been performed by Music Unlocked, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Columbia University Bach Society, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, LARK Quarte+, and Drumfire Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Cabaniss is an active educator in the arts. He served as director of education for the New York Chamber Symphony under Gerard Schwarz, the New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur and Lorin Maazel, and as music animateur for The Philadelphia Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach from 2004–2008. He is also a member of ASCAP, American Music Center, and Target Margin Theater.
