A special installment in our Live from Carnegie Hall series
introduces a new release featuring the Hall's world-renowned savior,
Isaac Stern.

Album: Isaac Stern: Keeping The Doors Open
Artists: Isaac Stern; Vladimir Horowitz; Mstislav
Rostropovich; Israel Philharmonic Orchestra; and Leonard Bernstein.
Date Recorded: May 18, 1976 (Carnegie Hall) and July
1967 (Jerusalem and Tel Aviv)
Fun Fact: Until saved by Isaac Stern's efforts in 1960,
Carnegie Hall was due to be replaced by a 44-story office tower, faced
with fire-engine-red, porcelain-covered steel panels.
Keeping The Doors Open commemorates Isaac Stern’s 90th
birthday and his endeavors that sparked a movement to save Carnegie Hall
from demolition 50 years ago.
Keeping The Doors Open features the first CD release of the
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, as well as a beloved performance of the
first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio recorded in the Hall* by the
premier violin virtuoso himself.
* Previously released on Concert
of the Century.
