The New York String Orchestra, which celebrated its 40th anniversary
in 2009, has a long association with Carnegie Hall.
The program for the first concert on December 24, 1969 was Vivaldi,
Mozart, Corelli, and Telemann. The soloists for the evening were Samuel
Sanders, harpsichord; Leonard Rose, cello; Alexander Schneider, viola;
Jean-Pierre Rampal, flute; and the great Isaac Stern, violin.
The New York String Orchestra's now-traditional pair of holiday
concerts at Carnegie Hall take place on December
24 and 28.
