The Brentano String Quartet performs three concerts during Carnegie Hall's 120th season. The programs for two of those concerts include the high-concept Fragments.
Brentano worked with composers Bruce Adolphe, Sofia Gubaidulina, John Harbison, Stephen Hartke, Vijay Iyer, and Charles Wuorinen to write pieces related to fragmentary works by earlier composers—Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, and Shostakovich.
Here, Mark Steinberg, the quartet's first violinist, introduces Fragments.
