On Sunday, February 5, 2012, more than 400 singers from the New York City area sang in Stern Auditorium as part of the culminating concert of The Carmina Burana Choral Project. The event included premieres by three high-school aged composers, as well as a performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana conducted by David Robertson and featuring jaw-dropping visuals by artist S. Katy Tucker. Following the concert, several of the students took to the internet to share their responses to the performance. Here is some of what they had to say:
“Every year during this time, I get super jealous that I'm not the one singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. This year, things are a bit different. I have been so lucky and blessed to have sung with teenagers who share the same passion as I do. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world. Today, we were truly one amazing voice. ♥”
“Led Zeppelin performed at Carnegie on October 17, 1969 ... and, like, we just did today. Isn't that something?”“Thank you to all of the amazing teachers, conductors, and everyone who took part in making this show such a success. This is the product of all of those long hours of rehearsal. I really can't even express how proud I am to say I was in that choir today with all of you. AMAZING. Can't express how happy I am. ♥ Hope to sing with you guys again some day in the future!! MUAHH P. S. Maestro Robertson is my new LOVE. Seriously.”
“I am so grateful for being able to take part in this amazing project.
We all met so many amazing people, and to be able to work with [Choral Preparer] Dianne [Berkun],
and Maestro [Robertson], performing Gabe's, Anthony's, and Thomas's music is something that I will never forget for as long as I live. ♥”
“I had the best time ever, the New Works Chorus was also really good. The composers were AMAZING. The soloists took my breath away, and we—we just stole the show.”
“This performance was probably the best thing that ever happened to me.
From all those weeks learning how to pronounce the different vowels and
shape our mouths ... ;) performing Carmina Burana was a life-changing event. Especially performing at Carnegie Hall at 15! ♥♥♥♥♥”
