• A Tribute to Chavela Vargas: Joaquín Sabina and Martirio

Spanish singer, songwriter, and poet Joaquín Sabina and his compatriot and fellow-singer Martirio continue our series of tributes to Chavela Vargas by people who have been touched by the music and personality of the late, legendary figure. Singers Ely Guerra, Eugenia León, and Tania Libertad perform a tribute concert to Vargas at Carnegie Hall on November 28.

    Joaquín Sabina on Chavela Vargas

Todo el México que yo conozco, el de José Alfredo, la revolución, los mariachis, los republicanos españoles, me lo metió en el corazón Chavela Vargas.

All of the Mexico that I know, José Alfredo's Mexico, the mariachis, the revolution, the Spanish republicans, was impregnated in my heart by Chavela Vargas.

    Martirio on Chavela Vargas

Chavela es una chamana de la canción que cura con su canto los males que llevamos dentro.Y las chamanas cuando curan, sangran.

Chavela is a shaman of the song who heals the ills that we carry inside. And when shamans heal, they bleed.
