David Fray
David Fray is inarguably one of France’s musical revelations of today—not only because of his impressive musicality and technique, but also because of his inventive and sensitive interpretations. A frequent soloist with the leading orchestras of today, he has collaborated with many distinguished conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Kurt Masur, Christoph Eschenbach, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jaap van Zweden, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, John Axelrod, and Daniele Gatti, among many others. An active recitalist, Mr. Fray appeared on numerous occasions in Europe, America, and Asia, in some of the most prestigious concert halls of the world.
Mr. Fray made his US debut in summer 2009 with The Cleveland Orchestra. He subsequently performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and San Francisco Symphony. This past summer, Mr. Fray performed at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and at the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York City.
Mr. Fray has received numerous prizes and awards, such as the prize of the Banque Populaire together with a study grant, the Diploma for Outstanding Merit at the fifth International Hamamatsu Competition in Japan, the Feydeau de Brou Saint Paul grant, and the Classical Discovery Prize from ADAMI. In 2004, he earned both the Second Grand Prize and the Prize for Best Interpretation of a work by a Canadian composer at the Montreal International Music Competition. The German Recording Academy has also awarded Mr. Fray with two ECHO Classic awards for Instrumentalist of the Year.
Since 2007, Mr. Fray has been an exclusive Virgin Classics artist. He devoted his first recording, released in May 2007, to the music of Bach and Pierre Boulez. Mr. Fray’s second album featured his performances of Bach keyboard concertos with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. His third recording, released in 2009, was dedicated to Schubert’s Moments musicaux and Impromptus.
