Neighborhood Concert: Maurice Brown Effect
The Schomberg Center
Meet the Maurice Brown Effect, and change the way you think about jazz. The group’s wild pace hearkens back to the bebop of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, while its tight beats are pure hip-hop. Band leader and trumpet virtuoso Brown has developed a new musical language for his instrument with innovative techniques, like playing solos through a wah-wah pedal. The band plays music from their new album, The Cycle of Love, featuring a unique, soulful sound that has hit the jazz world with staggering force.
