Neighborhood Concert: Lila Downs

El Museo del Barrio
Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lila Downs digs into the earthy indigenous culture of Mexico and taps into the deep wells of music traditions across the world, from blues and soul to African root and klezmer. Yet the constant thread winding throughout her aesthetic is the overwhelming, intense outpouring of emotions, perceptible in any language she sings in, whether Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, Mixtec, Nauhatl, Mayan, or Zapotec. Downs performs songs from her newest album set to release early 2012, Pecados y milagros (Sins and Miracles), in which she searches for symbols that give us strength during life’s struggles and pursuits.

Join the museum’s Super Sábado celebration with free exhibitions, art-making workshops, film screenings, and spoken-word recitals.

RSVP strongly suggested: Please bring your printed RSVP with you to this event. RSVPs will be honored up until 30 minutes before the show. After this time, all guests will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
