Neighborhood Concert: Ben Allison Band
Flushing Town Hall
Hailed by Jazztimes as a “visionary composer, adventurous improviser,” bassist Ben Allison has forged a powerful and unique sound that is instantly identifiable as his own. Known for his forward-thinking arrangements, deep grooves, and transfixing melodies, Allison’s brand of jazz taps into a range of influences, from rock and folk to classical and world music. His latest album Action-Refraction was released last year and reached number one on the CMJ National Jazz radio charts. The experimental album features inspired covers from Thelonious Monk and Samuel Barber to P. J. Harvey, The Carpenters, Donny Hathaway, and Neil Young.
