Neighborhood Concert: Ljova and the Kontraband
Brooklyn Museum
Swinging gypsy melodies, full-throated vocals, fiery strings, and unstoppable percussion: Ljova and the Kontraband create music that’s completely irresistible and incredibly fun. Defying categorization, this compelling music pulls together classical traditions, gypsy and Eastern-European sounds, Latin rhythms, and jazz improvisation. The group was founded by maverick film composer, arranger, and violist Lev “Ljova” Zhurbin, whose fresh and dazzling compositions have led him to collaborations with music giants Yo-Yo Ma, Osvaldo Golijov, Kronos Quartet, and JAY Z.
