Amazonas 2013

The Struggle for Survival

Weill Recital Hall
The fourth annual “Amazonas” concert highlights composers who have been inspired by the Amazon rainforest. This year’s concert celebrates Giuseppe Verdi's 200th birthday anniversary with excerpts from his lesser-known opera Alzira, which takes place in the Peruvian Amazon. Brazilian composer Ricardo Calderoni premieres his “Chameleon” Concerto for guitar, clarinet, and orchestra, an homage to Holocaust heroine Hannah Senesh. The program also features excerpts from Reynaldo Moya’s opera, Generalíssimo, and the world premiere of a piece written for guitarist Nilko Andreas, by Juan Pablo Carreño.
