Carnegie Hall will commission invited composers to write a work of approximately 15 minutes’ duration to be premiered at Zankel Hall at the conclusion of the workshop. Composers must apply together with an ensemble (suggested size of 3–15 performers, instrumental, vocal, and/or electronic) for which they wish to write. During the week, participants will have to the opportunity to discuss the life of a new piece, how to present their work on stage and in the media, and how to connect effectively—and entrepreneurially—with audiences.

A $30 application fee is due upon submission of the online application.
Scores will be due from commissioned composers no later than September 1, 2013. Ensembles are expected to arrive with the piece they will premiere already rehearsed and prepared for performance.
All invited participants are asked to arrive in New York City the day before the workshop begins and depart the day after. Shared hotel accommodation is provided on that basis. Expenses up to $300 will be reimbursed to each participant (to a maximum of $2,500 per ensemble) traveling from outside the New York City area.
