• Music Educators Workshop

    Ensemble directors from New York City middle and high schools, as well as community settings, sharpen their skills during this yearlong series of professional training and musical activities. This unique opportunity aims to enhance the artistry of educators at all levels, while incorporating best teaching practices into their ensemble settings. In addition to attending concerts, instructors engage in hands-on workshops, classroom observations and mentoring, and professional networking to receive invaluable supplementary training while reinvigorating their own musical practice. The 2014–2015 program will be offered to band, orchestra and choir directors throughout the New York City area. Confirmed guest faculty include: Steven Reineke, James Ross, Rossen Milanov, Peggy Dettwiler, Randal Swiggum and Margaret Jenks. Future summer sessions of Music Educators Workshop will be open to ensemble directors from across the United States.

  • The 2014–2015 Program

    In 2014–2015, up to 50 middle and high school ensemble directors will be selected to participate in a yearlong workshop that includes monthly interactive workshops with top music educators focused on pedagogy, conducting, and best teaching practices. Workshops will take place on Saturdays from September to June. Please see the program details page for workshop descriptions. The Music Educators Workshop will include:

    • monthly interactive workshops (on Saturdays) with top music educators that focus on pedagogy, ensemble leadership, and best teaching practices
    • attendance at concerts as a guest of Carnegie Hall
    • classroom observations and feedback from Music Educators Workshop faculty and peers
    • the opportunity to network with a peer group of New York City music teachers and conductors

    To apply, you must

    • work in either a school or community setting
    • be the director of a middle- or high-school-aged ensemble in New York City (eg. band, chorus, orchestra, guitar ensemble, etc.)
    • be able to attend at least nine of the ten sessions
    • be willing to contribute to and participate in a community of learners
    • be interested in receiving supplementary training or rejuvenating your musical and teaching practice

     

    Participants will receive an honorarium of $500 upon successful completion of the program and have the option to register for P-credit from the Department of Education.
