Walter Damrosch leads the New York Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall’s first children’s concert on December 30.

Over the next 40 years, generations of New York schoolchildren gain their first exposure to classical music from “dear Uncle Walter” and his Symphony Concerts for Young People. Damrosch later pioneered the use of radio in music education through his NBC Music Appreciation Hour broadcasts from 1928 to 1942.
