National High School Choral Festival

Timeline
December 2011: Application materials are available
April 2, 2012: Application deadline
June 15, 2012: Select choirs are notified
September 2012: Directors of the selected choirs come together for an all-expenses-paid Professional Development weekend of score study, workshops, and sharing best practices.
February–March 2013: Choral expert visits each high school for a full day of rehearsals.
April 17–20, 2013: Participating choirs will travel to New York for three days of rehearsals and a performance of the Mozart Requiem in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall conducted by Maestro John Nelson.
Features
- • Choruses prepare Mozart’s Requiem for the final performance in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.
- • Each chorus also performs 10–15 minutes of its own repertoire under the direction of its conductor at Carnegie Hall.
- • Carnegie Hall brings each participating choral director to a professional development weekend.
- • Choral preparer visits each high school for a full day of rehearsals.
- • Combined choruses rehearse for three days in New York City prior to the final concerts, in which they perform with Orchestra of St. Luke’s under the baton of Mr. Nelson.
- • These are the only high school choruses presented at Carnegie Hall by Carnegie Hall.
Fees
There are no fees for the National High School Choral Festival, and expenses for the program are covered by Carnegie Hall. The school is responsible only for travel and lodging costs for the Festival week.
