ON NOVEMBER 10 IN ZANKEL HALL
On Wednesday, November 10 at 9:30 p.m., saxophonist andcomposer Chris Potter headlines a performance with his band Undergroundin Zankel Hall. Dubbed “one of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists onthe planet" by DownBeat magazine, Potter has earned the reputationas one of his generation's premier improvisers as well as that of anaccomplished composer and bandleader. For their Zankel Hall performance,Potter’s Underground—featuring guitarist Adam Rogers, keyboardistCraig Taborn, and drummer Nate Smith—will showcase theirsignature progressive sound. Their most recent recording, Ultrahang(2009) marks the culmination of five years working as a quartet and illustratesthe band at its uninhibited yet cohesive best.

A world-class soloist, accomplished composer and formidable bandleader,saxophonist Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of hisgeneration. Identified by JazzTimes as "a figure of internationalrenown” and dubbed by 2011 NEA Jazz Master, Dave Liebman as "one of thebest musicians around," Potter was voted as one of the greatest tenorsaxophonists by readers of DownBeat magazine in their 2008 Readers Poll(second only to tenor saxophone great Sonny Rollins). Potter is the youngestmusician ever to win Denmark's prestigious Jazzpar Prize, and his discographyincludes 15 albums as a leader and appearances on over 100 albums as a sideman.He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his solo work on “In Vogue,” a trackfrom Joanne Brackeen’s 1999 album Pink Elephant Magic, and wasprominently featured on Steely Dan’s Grammy Award-winning album from 2000, TwoAgainst Nature. He has performed or recorded with many of the leading namesin jazz, such as Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, John Scofield, the Mingus Big Band,Jim Hall, Paul Motian, Dave Douglas, and Ray Brown among others.
