Last season, they brought four of Beethoven’s symphonies to Carnegie Hall, and on this concert they return with The Monteverdi Choir for the monumental Ninth and its celebrated Ode to Joy.

This orchestra of Israeli and Arab musicians continues its Beethoven cycle with the Seventh Symphony, a work that runs the emotional gamut from deepest despair to triumphant joy. Also on the program is the “Pastoral” Sixth. With a bucolic “Scene by the Brook” and rousing storm music—made famous as Zeus’s “thunderbolt” music in Fantasia—this tuneful, evocative symphony will have you longing for a springtime trip to the country.

David Daniels triumphs as Radamisto,” declared Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times after hearing the countertenor at the Santa Fe Opera; Luca Pisaroni, as the volatile antagonist, was positively “charismatic.” Daniels and Pisaroni both reprise their roles here at Carnegie Hall, joined by The English Concert under Harry Bicket, in a concert performance of Handel’s opera of lust, revenge, and the power of virtue.
