Chris Thile, of Punch Brothers, is a mandolin virtuoso, composer, and vocalist. With his broad outlook that encompasses progressive bluegrass, classical, rock, and jazz, Thile transcends the borders of conventionally circumscribed genres, creating a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike. On this program, he performs solo violin works on the mandolin by J. S. Bach, drawn from his forthcoming recording, Bach Sonatas & Partitas Vol. 1, as well as his own compositions and contemporary music.
