The 2007–2008 season was a year of continuing transition and transformation for Carnegie Hall, one in which the Hall both reaffirmed its historic role as home to the world’s most esteemed artists and ensembles, and took bold steps forward in expanding its burgeoning role as an ambassador for great music on an international scale. It is often said that music is a global language, and education, of course, is the key to speaking and understanding it. For this reason, music education, in the broadest sense of the term, continues to inform more and more of our strategic thinking at Carnegie Hall, stimulating the integration of our concert and educational programming, and animating our wide-ranging efforts to engage audiences more fully in the artistic process, to spark the imaginations of young children, and to develop the next generation of professional musicians.
