Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique The Monteverdi Choir
Haydn retells the story of the Creation with both a devout sense of worship and an astonishing visual flair. You can all but see, as well as hear, the newly-created earth, as it emerges from a terrifying musical void. This is dramatic choral writing at its greatest, with vivid pictures of the birds, the beasts, the storms, and more.
Pre-concert talk starts at 7:00 PM in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage with Elaine Sisman, Professor of Music, Columbia University.

Although Haydn is considered Mozart’s predecessor, Mozart’s influence on Haydn, even after his death, is without question. Carnegie Hall’s Artistic Director, Jeremy Geffen sheds some light on this relationship and Haydn’s two great oratorios, The Seasons and The Creation, pointing out one of the most heart-stopping moments in all music.
