Chris Washburne and the SYOTOS Band pushes the genre of Latin Jazz into uncharted waters with a postmodern mix that embraces dissonance and weaves contemporary up-tempo beats with a driving sound. As declared by the New York Times, “SYOTOS plays with fire with erudition!”
The band was founded 19 years ago and has become what Time Out New York calls a “Latin Jazz institution.” It has held the longest-running Latin jazz gig in New York City’s history—playing weekly for 18 years—and is the busiest and most in-demand Latin jazz group in the state. SYOTOS, whose members include former musicians of the Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri bands, carries on an impressive legacy in Latin Jazz. Chris Washburne was recognized as a Rising Star Trombonist in the 56th annual Downbeat Critics Poll in 2008.
