Carnegie Hall Subscriptions - The Philadelphia Orchestra
The Philadelphia Orchestra
After the world premiere of Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony at Carnegie Hall, the New York Evening Post proclaimed it “the greatest symphonic work ever composed in this country.” The fabulous Philadelphia Orchestra brings this musical tribute to America—by the Czechs’ most famous composer—back to Carnegie Hall in a spectacular season that also features Berlioz’s The Damnation of Faust, which, according to the composer himself, incited the audience to “shouts and stamping such as I had never heard and which shook the hall.” The always-fiery Martha Argerich delivers a special Russian treat, performing both Prokofiev’s and Shostakovich’s first piano concertos in one concert.
