How can my school sign up for Global Encounters?
To sign up for Global Encounters, each teacher can register online for Music of India or Music Mexico. If your school has multiple participating teachers (those attending the professional development workshops and implementing the program), please have each teacher register separately online. Call 212-903-9628 for assistance.

When is registration due for Global Encounters?
Registration for Global Encounters: Music of India (with final student numbers) is due September 1, 2010. Registration for Global Encounters: Music of India (with final student numbers) is due November 1, 2010. Any registrations received past this date will be added to a waitlist and only enrolled if space permits. In the event that a space opens up, teachers will be notified directly by Carnegie Hall staff.

How many teachers can sign up for Global Encounters via online registration?
Each teacher participating in Global Encounters should register individually online for Music of India or Music Mexico. If your school has multiple participating teachers (those attending the professional development workshops and teaching the program), please have each teacher register separately online. Do you have to be a music teacher to implement Global Encounters?
No. Global Encounters is designed for music, social studies, English, or visual arts classroom teachers working with 9th–12th grade students.

My school signed up for Global Encounters, but another teacher at the school is implementing the curriculum with my students. Do I have to register and attend professional development workshops?
Only teachers implementing the curriculum directly with students are considered participating teachers, who must register, attend the required professional development workshops, and attend the concert. Teachers attending the concerts but not implementing the curriculum are considered chaperones. Please call 212-903-9625 with questions.

My class size went up or down since I registered. What do I do?
Please note that after the initial professional development workshops, the number of students on your registration cannot be adjusted, nor can refunds be issued. Please plan accordingly when registering. Contact Carnegie Hall staff in writing or via e-mail at globalencounters@carnegiehall.org with questions.

How much does Global Encounters cost?
The teacher fee for Global Encounters is $30, and the student fee is $6.

What methods of payment are accepted for Global Encounters?
Carnegie Hall can accept payment via:

  • personal check
  • school check
  • cash
  • download credit card form (NEW!)
  • purchase order (A copy of the purchase order must be sent to us via fax at 212-903-0925 or via email at globalencounters@carnegiehall.org by October 4, 2010 for India or January 31, 2011 for Mexico.)

    When is payment due for Global Encounters?
    Payment via credit card, personal, or school check is due October 4, 2010 for India or Janurary 31, 2011 for Mexico. For schools paying via purchase order, a copy of your PO must be submitted by those dates via fax to 212-903-9625 or via email to globalencounters@carnegiehall.org. Payment in full is due by December 13, 2010 for India and May 16, 2011 for Mexico.

    When will Carnegie Hall confirm my Global Encounters concert date and time?
    Carnegie Hall will confirm your Global Encounters concert date by September 15, 2010 for India or January 1 for Mexico. If you have not yet heard from Carnegie Hall regarding your Global Encounters concert by those dates, please contact Carnegie Hall staff at 212-903-9625.

    Professional Development Workshops

    I participated in Global Encounters last year. Do I still need to attend this year's workshops?
    Where are the Global Encounters workshops, and how do I get there?
    Where is parking located near Carroll Studios?

    I participated in Global Encounters last year. Do I still need to attend this year's workshops?
    Yes, every participating teacher is required to attend the Global Encounters professional development workshops regardless of past participation in the program. Please note that we have separate initial workshopss for new and returning teachers, so the returning teacher workshop will be catered to your experience. Teachers who do not attend the required workshop sessions will forfeit participation in the program.

    Where are the Global Encounters workshops, and how do I get there?
    All Global Encounters professional development workshops take place at Carroll Studios, located at 625 West 55th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues.

    Where is parking located near Carroll Studios?
    There are several parking garages located near Carroll Studios. The easiest way to find these is to visit Best Parking. This website provides you with an estimate of how much it will cost and locations. There is also parking located on the east side of 11th Avenue (West End Avenue) between 57th and 58th Streets, at 622 West 57th Street between 11th and 12th avenues, or at 641 West 59th Street between West End Avenue (same thing as 11th Avenue) and 12th Avenue.

    Materials

    When will I get my Global Encounters materials?

    When will I get my Global Encounters materials?
    Your Global Encounters materials will be distributed at your professional development workshop. If you are participating with a large number of students, you student books will be mailed to you within 2–3 weeks of your attending the professional development workshop. Please note that materials will not be sent out until you have completed the required professional development workshop.

    When will I receive my Global Encounters tickets?
    The Global Encounters program does not issue physical tickets. Rather, the ushers will have a list at the entrance to Zankel Hall with the number of students, teachers, and chaperones you are bringing.

    How many parents/adults may I bring to the Global Encounters concerts?
    One chaperone (parent, teacher, etc.) is included at no cost for every 10 students. For example, if a teacher enrolls a class of 30 students, he or she will automatically receive 30 student seats, 3 chaperone seats, and 1 seat for him/herself, a total of 34 seats. Extra adults, subject to availability, are an additional $6 each. Please note that parents/adults may not purchase individual tickets. Additional adult tickets must be reserved by the participating teacher on the registration form.

    May parents purchase tickets to Global Encounters?
    No, parents may not purchase tickets to Global Encounters. If parents are interested in attending, they must attend with their child's class as a chaperone or as a pre-arranged additional adult. Please note that tickets are available only via teacher registration and not on an individual basis.

    May I take photos and videos at the Global Encounters concerts?
    No. In accordance with Carnegie Hall's policies, photography and videography are strictly prohibited.

    What instructions should I give to my bus drivers for the Global Encounters concerts?
    Buses should drop off students on the east side of Seventh Avenue, facing south, in front of the Zankel Hall marquee. Following the concert, buses should again line up along the east side of Seventh Avenue, facing south. Please note that buses cannot wait in front of Carnegie Hall during the concert.

    When do the doors open for the Global Encounters concerts? When should I arrive?
    Doors open 30 minutes before each Global Encounters concert. As these events are general admission (no assigned seats), the earlier you arrive, the closer you will be to the stage. Entry to the hall will not be granted earlier than 30 minutes prior to each performance.

    Where can my students eat lunch after/before the Global Encounters concert?
    If the weather is nice, Central Park is only two blocks away. There is also a public atrium between 6th and 7th Avenues with entrances on West 56th and West 57th Streets.
