The game offers two modes of play: a login game and a local game. The login game tracks your progress throughout the game. When you quit a login game, the game will remember where you are. Upon your return, a login game will begin where you left off. The login game will allow several users to play different games from the same computer. The login game will also remember your game if you login from another computer. By contrast, the local game will only remember one game per computer.

During a normal game, the safari map that runs along the bottom of the screen will only allow you to click on instruments that you have visited before, preventing you from skipping forward to other instruments. If you would like to skip ahead, select a practice round at the game selection menu. During a practice round, you will be able to click on any instrument on the safari map.

A new game is one that starts at the very first adventure of the website. In this mode, you can only visit each instrument one at a time. You will not be able to skip ahead to other instruments until you have completed the previous ones. As you go through the game, your progress will be saved. You will be able to resume a saved game by selecting a continued game. In a practice round, you will be able to skip to any instrument you wish to visit; however, you will not be given credit as completing any instruments.

If you’re having trouble finding the pieces of the bassoon, try paying close attention to the color of the pieces in the hippos' mouths. Bassoon pieces will have an orange-brown color. Click on only those pieces, and you will be able to go on to the next game.

This game is not so difficult when you let several instrument pieces go by before clicking on anything. You will then realize that only the medium-sized pieces are viola pieces. Also, placing your mouse pointer over any part of a zebra will stop the animal, allowing you to examine the instrument piece it holds more carefully.

If you’re having trouble spotting the pieces of the horn, click on only the yellow-colored pieces. Only yellow-colored pieces belong to the horn. If you’re having trouble looking at the pieces as they fly by, roll your mouse over a flying piece. That will stop the instrument piece, allowing you to examine it more carefully.

After the completion of every orchestra section, Violet is rewarded with a handful of stickers. Each sticker represents an instrument or group of instruments in that orchestra section. Place each sticker into the proper placeholder in the orchestra map to continue to the next portion of the game.
