For over a decade, the Professional Training Workshops have brought the world's great artists to Carnegie Hall, where they have taught intensive workshops and master classes for emerging musicians. This season, we are pleased to offer a workshop on jazz and improvised music for small ensembles led by renowned trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas. Caoches will include Marilyn Crispell, piano; Greg Cohen, bass; and Andrew Cyrille, drums.
The six-day schedule will include ensemble coachings as well as compostition development sessions and will culminate in a public performance on April 18 in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall's newest performance venue. There will be an emphasis on original composition both in the application process and in the workshop. Each of the three ensembles selected to participate in the workshop will perform on the final program. Auditor applications are also being accepted.
Ensemble members must be from 18 to 30 years of age as of April 2005. All forms of jazz and improvised music are welcome. Ensembles may range in size from trio to quintet, with flexible instrumentation, and may include vocalists.
