This workshop is presented jointly by the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, the Silk
Road Project, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma will lead the workshop along with musicians of the Silk Road Ensemble and musicians from Azerbaijan, China, India, and Iran. The workshop will aim to train a new generation of musicians in the performance practices of music from the Silk Road region. Participants will spend a week at Tanglewood working on existing music as well as newly commissioned music by Silk Road composers. The culminating performances will take place in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. Applications will be accepted for the following: violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, percussion, conductor, and vocalist. Applicants must be between the ages 18 and 30. 15 musicians will be accepted into the workshop.
September 8-19, 2004
