CARNEGIE HALL PRESENTS THE BAD PLUS IN
ZANKEL HALL ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12 AT 8:30 P.M.
On Wednesday, December 12 at 8:30 p.m., maverick jazz trio The Bad Plus brings to Zankel Hall its unique repertoire of original jazz compositions mixed with transcriptions of mainstream pop music ranging from Burt Bacharach to Black Sabbath. This performance is a part of Carnegie Hall’s 2007–2008 The Shape of Jazz series, which is currently in its fifth season. The Shape of Jazz series is presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with Festival Productions.
Comprised of bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson, and drummer David King, The Bad Plus came together in 1990 after the musicians met while performing in high school rock festivals and free jazz jams in Minnesota. Parting ways for most of the 1990s, the group reformed in 2000 and then rose to national attention following a multi-night run at the Village Vanguard. In 2003, the band released its major label debut, These Are the Vistas, on Columbia Records. The album showcased the band’s original compositions as well as dramatic re-workings of music by Blondie, Aphex Twin, and Nirvana. The success of These Are the Vistas led to subsequent world tours as well as to three more acclaimed albums, including this year’s PROG.
Now in its fifth season, The Shape of Jazz series features artists from a wide spectrum of styles. In addition to The Bad Plus, this season’s lineup included The David Sánchez Group (October 17), and will feature the SFJAZZ Collective (March 5), and Manhattan Trinity (April 2).
