Sunday, September 7 (Bishek)

In the morning, I woke up around 7:30 and noticed that Joe was already up and out of the room exploring. After dressing I headed down to the café for coffee.

(Phoenix with Ambassador Young at his home)

At 10:00 we left for a shopping center called Tzum, which was unique. It was a cross between Irving Street in San Francisco and New York. We went shopping for quite some time. Michelle bought so many purses I couldn't believe it. We then went back to the hotel to meet Julia and Kamila. We took the van to a shop that was closed but went into the one next door, which was very nice—full of Persian silk rugs that were some the most beautiful things that I have ever seen. After shopping, we went to meet our friends the Semetei Quartet for lunch at a Turkish restaurant.

The lunch was fun; it was really nice to see our friends in the Semetei again. The food was exquisite, and I ended up eating a lot more than I could handle. During the lunch Lee-Ann taught us this rhythm game that we all couldn't quite get, because musicians have no rhythm. After lunch we said good-bye to the quartet and went back to the hotel for some rest. Rest, of course, meant practice, but I found myself so tired that I went to go drink more coffee at the café until we had a rehearsal.

After rehearsal, we left the hotel to go to the Ambassador's house to give a concert. The house was big and beautiful. After warming up in the basement by the pool, we went upstairs to play. The concert was a success—our best performance since our arrival here. Each day was getting better for us. After the performance we sat and ate dinner while talking to the wonderful people who were invited to come and hear us. I met some amazing people, like the ambassador of Turkey and our own ambassador, Stephen Young. After about an hour and a half we were so tired that we went back to the hotel for some sleep.
