Perelman American Roots (Grades 6–8)

2009–2010 Season Information

The Perelman American Roots program explores the dynamic connections between American music and American history in middle school social studies and music classrooms. Through standard lessons and those based on the New York City Department of Education's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Music, students delve into the historical and cultural context of the vibrant traditions of American music, complete with program concerts.

The 2009–2010 Perelman American Roots program, which includes all of the features described here, will focus on the history of African American Song. The curriculum will contain 12 lessons, including three lessons supporting the creation of a final project. The program includes a final interactive concert in Carnegie's Zankel Hall.

Professional Development Workshops (participants must attend all workshops):
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 4 PM
Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 4 PM
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 4 PM

Concerts (choose one):
Friday, May 21, 2010 at 10:15 AM
Friday, May 21, 2010 at 12:15 PM
