Perelman American Roots (Grades 6–8)
African American Song

2009–2010 Season Details

The 2009–2010 American Roots program will focus on the history of African American Song. The curriculum will contain 12 lessons, including three lessons supporting the creation of a final project. The curriculum will also include skill-based materials and entry points for music performance classrooms. These materials will include transcriptions and arrangements of African music, spirituals, and protest songs.

The final concert for this program will feature performances that will connect to the range of material and repertoire studied in the curriculum. At this event, participating classes will share their final projects and collaborate with our featured artists.

This season, in-depth musical investigations facilitated by Teaching Artists of The Weill Music Institute are provided ONLY as part of the School Residency Program. This feature gives teachers an option to further explore their study of African American Song. See School Residency Program details here ›
