Music of India | Music of Mexico

2009–2010 Season Information

Global Encounters 2009–2010 integrates the study of world music into social studies, English, and music classrooms. Throughout the program, students and teachers explore the music and culture of the chosen focus country through sequential lessons, Professional Development Workshops, classroom visits by a world music performer, and a final interactive concert in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.

New this season: Sign up for both programs! Focus on the Music of India in Fall 2009 and the Music of Mexico in Spring 2010.




Global Encounters: Music of India

This program explores wide-ranging musical styles and cultures from the Northern Indian Hindustani region. Students and teachers will study improvisation, rhythmic and harmonic modes, musical texts, traditional forms, and recent innovations.

Global Encounters: Music of Mexico

This program focuses on traditional music from Mexico. Students and teachers will study song forms, improvisation, and the cultural context of the rich traditions of Mexican music.

Fee Details
$6 per student / $30 per teacher

One adult chaperone for every 10 children is required at each concert. Chaperones attend the concerts free of charge.
