Each year, over 33,000 students and teachers learn more about music at Carnegie Hall.
A variety of programs for the education community throughout the New York metropolitan area are available for teachers, schools, and students of various ages.
For Pre-Schools
The McGraw-Hill Companies CarnegieKids concerts, presented in the fall and spring of each season, introduce pre-school children (ages 3–6) to basic musical concepts. Presented in Carnegie Hall's Kaplan Space, these delightful 45-minute concerts feature musicians and a storyteller who engage the children through active participation in song and movement.
For Elementary Schools
Welcome to the new season of Musical Explorers! This music education program allows second and third graders to discover the families of orchestral instruments—woodwinds, strings, brass, and percussion—through songs, activities, and listening games.
Carnegie Hall’s LinkUP! program for students in grades 4–6 is a comprehensive program that includes a teacher workshop and concert at Carnegie Hall. The curriculum teaches basic musical concepts and musical literacy while exposing students to high quality classical music performances.
For Middle Schools
The
Perelman American Roots program is founded on the belief that the study of traditional American music can deepen student understanding of American history, culture, and society.
For High Schools
Focusing on a different region of the world each year, Carnegie Hall’s Citi Global Encounters program integrates world music and cultures into high school social studies and music classrooms.
For each High School Choral Festival, four choirs of high school-age students, chosen by tape audition, will appear in a concert at Carnegie Hall. Each choir will sing ten minutes of repertoire individually, then all of the choirs will join forces with the Orchestra of St. Luke's to present a major choral work.
National Program
Carnegie Hall's Communities LinkUP! Program assists regional orchestras and arts organizations in adapting Carnegie Hall’s highly acclaimed LinkUP! program in their own communities, providing the program structure, materials, and training. The culmination of the year-long program is a local live orchestra performance for the students, which for many is their first concert experience.
