The Citi Global Encounters program introduces high school students to musical styles from around the world, while helping teachers use the study of music to enrich student understanding of human concerns, historical perspectives, and fundamental social questions.
Music of Turkey: Cultural Crossroads Discover the folk music traditions and culture of Turkey through this interdisciplinary program that reaches high school students in their classrooms. Professional Development Workshops, an interdisciplinary curriculum, and an artist visit to each participating classroom culminate in a final concert at Carnegie Hall. Interested teachers can apply for an enhanced version of this program that includes two Teaching Artist visits. More information on this enhanced program will be available here soon. Program Features
Program Dates Professional Development Workshops Tues, Feb 5, 2008 at 4 PM Thurs, Feb 7, 2008 at 4 PM Sat, Feb 9, 2008 at 10 AM Final Concerts Wed, May 28, 2008 at 10:15 AM and 12:15 PM Zankel Hall Thurs, May 29, 2008 at 10:15 AM and 12:15 PM Zankel Hall Distance Learning Intensive Event and Program Event The Distance Learning Event was broadcast simultaneously from Carnegie Hall and a concert hall in Turkey, and featured performances by world-class musicians from both Turkey and the United States on Wed, Dec 5, 2007, at 10:15 AM. Program For the first time this year, a select group of six to eight classes will participate in the Distance Learning Intensive program, connecting students in New York to their peers in Istanbul via classroom-based exchanges. This semester will culminate with the Distance Learning Event. Note: Participating schools have already been chosen for the 2007-2008 Distance Learning Program. Registration and Program Fees Registration for all 2007-2008 WMI programs is now closed. Details of the 2008-2009 season registration process will be posted when available.
