Watch the pieces come together for your students (grades 4–6)—LinkUP! helps you guide them through music's building blocks, from the simplest to the most complex works. Focusing this year on Theme and Variation, LinkUP! unites the classroom with the performance hall, giving students the opportunity to sing and play recorders under the baton of conductor John Morris Russell and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. The program includes a Professional Development Workshop for teachers and a standards-based curriculum complete with activity books, audio CD, and recorders, and admission to one of the LinkUP! concerts below for each participating student and teacher. Theme and Variation In May, for our 23rd fully interactive LinkUP! concert in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, we proudly present conductor John Morris Russell, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, and students from throughout New York City and the Tri-State area. Students will sing and play the recorder, using skills they have developed throughout the year with the help of their teachers and the LinkUP! curriculum. Each concert will last approximately one hour. Participating LinkUP! teachers are required to attend one of the Professional Development Workshops at Carnegie Hall. During the workshops, teachers receive the LinkUP! curriculum materials and learn how to implement the curriculum in their own classrooms and share best practices for the program with their peers. Following the workshop, teachers will receive student materials. This year, workshops emphasize teacher development through creative approaches to music in the classroom. Unless otherwise noted, all workshops will be held at Carnegie Hall's Kaplan Space at 154 West 57th Street, 5th Floor. A limited number of off-site workshops will be offered. Program Features Teachers Teachers will receive a Professional Development Workshop, including lessons based on the program theme. They will also receive curriculum resources, CDs, a soprano recorder and a LinkUP! concert ticket. Teachers will also benefit from an ongoing program consultation with Weill Music Institute staff. Students Students will receive one LinkUP! activity book, a soprano recorder, and a concert ticket per child. They will also attend a final participatory concert once per year, held at Carnegie Hall. Teacher Responsibilities Attend one LinkUP! Professional Development Workshop during the year. Implement at least 6 curriculum lessons and keep The Weill Music Institute staff apprised of curriculum implementation. Schedule at least one WMI staff site visit. Ensure that students are prepared for the final concert. 2007-2008 Professional Development Workshops Tues, Mar 11, 2008 4:30 PM (Music Teachers) Program Fees Students: $5 (per student) Teachers: $40 (per teacher) One adult chaperone per ten children is required. Chaperones attend the LinkUp concerts free of charge. Additional adults pay $5 per person. Please make payment by check or money order payable to the Carnegie Hall Corporation. Unfortunately we cannot process credit card orders at this time. Program fees are nonrefundable. Full payment must be received by the date of your concert. Additional Materials Teachers may print out and complete a Certificate of Achievement for each student who has completed the LinkUP! curriculum and will be participating in a LinkUP! concert.
