Carnegie Hall today announced the lineup for the third season of its popular City Folk® Live at Zankel series. This season includes performances by Cowboy Junkies (October 20), Dar Williams (December 1), Joan Osborne (March 7), and Josh Rouse (April 18). The series, which is presented in partnership with WFUV, 90.7 FM, celebrates the art of singer-songwriters and highlights the eclectic nature of modern folk music. WFUV’s Music Director, Rita Houston, curates the series with Carnegie Hall and serves as host for the concerts.
• Cowboy Junkies, Saturday, October 20 at 8:30 p.m.—In the 20 years since the
release of their breakthrough album, The Trinity Session, the Cowboy Junkies
continue to entertain audiences with their unique blend of rock, country, blues,
and folk. The group’s new album, At the End of Paths Taken, was released in
April 2007 and chronicles the complexities of human connections and the struggle
to sustain those connections over time.
• Dar Williams, Saturday, December 1 at 8:30 p.m.—A mainstay on the folk scene
since the mid-1990s, Dar Williams’ songwriting is both personal and political and
has earned comparisons to Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez. Her most recent album,
My Better Self, is a lyrically political album combining songs of love and hate with
tales that illustrate some of the many social and environmental issues that Ms.
Williams holds dear to her heart.
• Joan Osborne, Friday, March 7 at 8:30 p.m.—Propelled by the hit single, One of Us,
Joan Osborne’s debut album, Relish, earned five Grammy nominations and
multi-platinum album sales. Since then, she has released four studio recordings,
collaborated with The Dead, opened for the Dixie Chicks, and appeared in the
award-winning documentary, Standing in the Shadows of Motown. Her sound
effortlessly blends blues, rock, pop, soul, and, more recently, country.
• Josh Rouse, Friday, April 18 at 8:30 p.m.—With songs harkening back to the iconic
singer-songwriters of the 1970s, Josh Rouse creates his own unique blend of
Americana and ethereal pop. Since his debut in 1998, Mr. Rouse has released an
impressive six full length records. His next album, Country Mouse, City House, will
be released in July 2007.
