THE COWBOY JUNKIES OPEN THIRD SEASON OF
CITY FOLK® LIVE AT ZANKEL ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20 AT 8:30 P.M.

On Saturday, October 20 at 8:30 p.m., the Cowboy Junkies kick off the third year of City Folk® Live at Zankel. Known for languid and ethereal songwriting, the Cowboy Junkies perform songs from its extensive and influential discography. The concert series, which is presented in partnership with WFUV, 90.7 FM, celebrates the art of singer-songwriters and highlights the eclectic nature of modern folk music. WFUV’s Music Director, Rita Houston, curates the series with Carnegie Hall and serves as host for the concerts.

In the 20 years since the release of their breakthrough album, The Trinity Session, the Cowboy Junkies—vocalist Margo Timmins, guitarists John and Michael Timmins, bassist Alan Anton, and drummer Peter Timmins—have forged a distinctive blend of folk, country, blues, and rock. Since the release of its debut record in 1986, the group has recorded more than 10 albums, the most recent of which was released in April 2007. The new album, entitled At the End of Paths Taken, chronicles the complexities of human connections and the struggle to sustain those connections over time.

Carnegie Hall’s City Folk® Live at Zankel, which began in October 2005, is based on WFUV’s pioneering City Folk® format that blends adult rock, singer-songwriters, and roots music. In addition to the Cowboy Junkies, this season includes performances by Dar Williams (December 1), Joan Osborne (March 7), and Josh Rouse (April 18).

WFUV (90.7 FM, wfuv.org) is a non-commercial, listener-supported public radio station, licensed to Fordham University for more than 50 years. Weekly serving over 330,000 listeners in the New York area and thousands more worldwide on the web, and a leader in contemporary music radio, WFUV offers an eclectic mix of rock, singer-songwriters, blues, world, and other music with its influential City Folk® format, plus headlines from National Public Radio, local news and sports, and Metro Traffic.
