FALL 2007 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES AT CARNEGIE HALL,
PRESENTED BY THE WEILL MUSIC INSTITUTE

Family Concerts for Ages 5 to 12

This fall, The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall offers a variety of interactive and affordable events for kids and families: The McGraw-Hill Companies CarnegieKids, Family Concerts, and free Neighborhood Concerts in all five boroughs. With opportunities for preschoolers to adults, new listeners to emerging professional musicians, The Weill Music Institute plays a central role in Carnegie Hall’s commitment to making great music accessible to as many people as possible. The McGraw-Hill Companies CarnegieKids (Recommended for ages 3 to 6)
The McGraw-Hill Companies CarnegieKids program introduces children to one of the four instrument families of the orchestra and basic musical concepts through these fun, interactive 45-minute concerts. Children listen, sing, and move to engaging music and stories led by a host and small instrumental ensemble. Concerts take place in Carnegie Hall’s Kaplan Space and tickets are $6. This fall, The McGraw-Hill Companies CarnegieKids features the brass family of instruments and, in the spring, the percussion family.

Monday, October 29 to Wednesday, October 31 at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m.
Friday, November 2 at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m.
Saturday, November 3 at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m.; 2 and 3:30 p.m.
Monday, November 5 to Friday, November 9 at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m.

Family Concerts (Recommended for ages 5 to 12)
Featuring music for the entire family, these one-hour, weekend afternoon concerts are designed for children ages 5-12 to experience the joy of attending a live musical performance. Programs in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage and Zankel Hall showcase classical, jazz, and world music ensembles. Fun and engaging pre-concert activities allow children to meet artists one-on-one for an up-close look at the instruments they play. All tickets are affordably priced at $9. Family Concerts are sponsored by Bank of America, Carnegie Hall’s Proud Season Sponsor.

Fall 2007 Family Concert highlights include:

Frank London and Friends: Klezmer Party!
Sunday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall; pre-concert activities begin at 12 noon
Internationally acclaimed and Grammy Award-winning artist Frank London brings a dozen of the world’s greatest klezmer musicians into Zankel Hall for a special concert of klezmer music and Yiddish songs, exploring how this traditional music has transformed over time. The concert will include opportunities to sing along as well as join in the festive party with dancing led by Jill Gellerman.

Harbor Latin Youth Ensemble
Sunday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall; pre-concert activities begin at 12 noon
Harbor Latin Youth Ensemble—directed by musician/educators Ramon Rodriguez, Pablo Mayor, and Gustavo Schartz—is comprised of the most advanced student ages 12–19 enrolled in the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Art’s Pre-Professional Latin Music Program. Join these talented young performers for a concert exploring the musical ingredients of salsa!

Young People’s Chorus of New York City: Holidays Around the World
Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage; pre-concert activities begin at 12:30 p.m. with Charlotte Blake Alston
In a spirited celebration of the season, the award-winning Young People’s Chorus of New York City and its artistic director Francisco J. Núñez raise their voices in holiday songs from many cultures and traditions around the world.

Neighborhood Concerts
Now in its 32nd season, the Neighborhood Concert Series presents free concerts for New Yorkers of all ages in collaboration with museums; colleges; libraries; community, cultural, and religious centers; and shelters throughout the five boroughs. Neighborhood Concerts, which reflect both the diverse sounds of the city and Carnegie Hall’s ever-expanding programming, offer classical, Latin, jazz, tango, doo-wop, bluegrass, Brazilian, African, Indian, Caribbean music, and more!

In November, as part of Carnegie Hall’s first major international festival Berlin in Lights, members of the acclaimed Berliner Philharmoniker and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela perform in communities in all five boroughs of New York City. These concerts are free and open to the public with many geared towards younger audiences. Don’t miss these opportunities to hear world class musicians in your own backyard!
