SINGER-SONGWRITERS DAN WILSON AND CORY CHISEL KICK OFF THE 2009–10
WFUV LIVE AT ZANKEL SERIES ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 AT 8:30 PM

Dan Wilson and Cory Chisel, individually renowned in Americana and rock music circles for their elegant melodies, expressive lyrics, and intelligent vocals, perform a double bill concert in Zankel Hall on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 8:30 p.m. kicking off the 2009–10 WFUV Live at Zankel series. Wilson and Chisel—alongside his band The Wandering Sons—will both perform a range of folk rock selections, including music from their most recent and forthcoming releases.

The WFUV Live at Zankel series, which is presented in partnership with WFUV, 90.7 FM, celebrates the art of singer-songwriters and highlights the eclectic nature of their music. WFUV’s Music Director, Rita Houston, curates the series with Carnegie Hall and serves as host for the concerts. Upcoming WFUV Live at Zankel performances include country star Shelby Lynne on Saturday, December 12, 2009; and folk icon Richie Havens on Friday, February 19, 2010.

Dan Wilson, onetime member of cult band Trip Shakespeare and leader of the critically acclaimed group Semisonic, recently launched his solo career after an intense period of songwriting collaborations with notable artists including the Dixie Chicks, Mike Doughty, Jewel, and Jason Mraz among others. His co-writing work with the Dixie Chicks earned him a Song of the Year Grammy in 2007 for “Not Ready To Make Nice” from the album Taking the Long Way for which he co-wrote six songs. Wilson's first full-length solo album, Free Life, was released by American Recordings in 2007.

Wisconsin-based singer/songwriter Cory Chisel draws inspiration from the music he heard growing up in church as well as from the heartland music of his hometown to create the Americana- and blues-saturated sound that has become his hallmark. On his first full-length album with his band, The Wandering Sons, Chisel explores human desire and through his music seeks to reconcile the call of the road with a longing for home. The album entitled Death Won’t Send A Letter will be released by RCA in September 2009.

Carnegie Hall’s WFUV Live at Zankel, now entering its fifth year, is based on WFUV’s pioneering music format which blends adult rock, singer-songwriters, and roots music. Artists who have performed as part of the series include the bird and the bee, Rosanne Cash, Marc Cohn, Cowboy Junkies, Kathleen Edwards and John Doe, Alejandro Escovedo, Nick Lowe, Gary Louris and Mark Olson, Nellie McKay, Joan Osborne, Jane Siberry, and Suzanne Vega.
