CONDUCTOR LORIN MAAZEL TO LEAD BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2 IN STERN AUDITORIUM/PERELMAN STAGE
Maestro Maazel Replaces BSO Music Director James Levine Who Continues to
Convalesce After Surgery for a Herniated Disc
Carnegie Hall today announced that
Lorin Maazel will conduct the
Boston Symphony Orchestra in an all-Beethoven program on
Monday, November 2 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. Mr. Maazel steps in for BSO Music Director
James Levine who must regrettably withdraw from this performance as his doctors have advised him to postpone returning to his conducting schedule until he is more fully recovered from surgery that took place earlier this month for a herniated disc. Mr. Maazel will conduct the previously announced program which includes Beethoven’s symphonies nos. 6 and 7. For ticket information, the public may contact CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800.
Lorin Maazel recently completed his seventh and final season as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic which he conducted in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage in February of this year. He continues, now in his fourth season, as the first Music Director of the Santiago Calatrava-designed opera house in Valencia, Spain, the Palau de les Arts “Reina Sofia” and as the founder and Artistic Director of the Castleton Festival, a new festival launched to exceptional acclaim in 2009. This concert at Carnegie Hall, along with performances the previous week at Symphony Hall in Boston, marks his first appearances with the BSO since 1973.
