    Recitals and Master Classes for Singers

    January 23–28, 2018

    Founded by iconic mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, one of America’s great artists, this annual celebration of art song nurtures gifted young singers. Soprano Renée Fleming and Collaborative Pianist Graham Johnson join Ms. Horne in an intensive weeklong series of coaching sessions and master classes for rising vocal talents. Invited participants will receive a private coaching with either Ken Noda or Warren Jones, and will also have the opportunity to attend a Spotlight Recital and the culminating event, the Marilyn Horne Song Celebration.

    Application Requirements

    In addition to a completed online form, all applicants must submit a short biography (100-word maximum), a current headshot, a one-page resume, two letters of recommendation, and an audition video. The audition video (audio-only files are not accepted) should include unedited performances of four songs (no arias, musical theater selections, or popular songs):

    • One English song
    • One German song
    • One song in a third language
    • One song in a fourth language

    All materials will be submitted electronically through DecisionDesk, a service that provides a digital audition platform to many performing arts schools and programs. As part of the application, you will be asked to enter e-mail addresses for your recommenders—two are required, a third is optional. They will receive a link to an online recommendation form after you submit your completed application. Please note that this e-mail will be sent directly from DecisionDesk (not Carnegie Hall). Your references will have until October 20 to complete and submit their confidential recommendations.

    Application Fee

    A $10 application fee is required at the time you submit your application.

    Practical Information

    Invited participants are expected to arrive in New York City the day before the workshop begins and depart the day after it concludes. Shared hotel accommodation is provided on that basis. Expenses of up to $500 (North America) and $1,000 (international) will be reimbursed to each participant traveling from outside the New York City area.
