The core objectives of the Information Systems department are to drive substantial and lasting improvements in Carnegie Hall’s mission and performance by partnering with internal clients and obsessing about their current and future process redesign needs, application requirements, and their success. The Director, Software Applications is a senior technology management position responsible for visioning, enabling and implementing the next generation of mission-oriented and business applications at Carnegie Hall, and managing Information Systems staff to achieve the core objectives. While managing and maintaining existing solutions, the Director will fundamentally drive IS team advancement and guide the evolution of Carnegie Hall’s future applications footprint. Nominally, the Director manages multiple system-enabled processing areas including administrative (accounting, payroll/HR, etc.); visitor and constituent systems (ticketing and fundraising, education, bookings and rentals); event planning and calendaring; standards- and tool-based analytics and management reporting; and back-office (database management, project management, etc.). The Director supervises an internal staff of five, along with a variety of contracted resources, to design, implement, support and maintain business applications. The Director promotes and exemplifies the “we will do whatever it takes to support the institution” attitude and will obsess in helping CH departments and staff succeed.


Qualifications

Substantial knowledge of and experience with transformational project management, staff leadership and the ability to communicate effectively are critical in order to work with colleagues in ITG and throughout the organization. Minimum of 10 years of software and IT-related experience required as are:

  • Demonstrated experience building IT and application strategic plans along with the ability to “roll up their sleeves” and drive the success of projects, systems and the institution
  • Experience deploying project management and quality control systems that increase productivity and deliver quality software
  • Experience designing and implementing development standards and practices, and source control, and Scrum project management
  • Demonstrated experience initiating and managing software development project plans
  • Experience with Agile and Lean to empower teams to innovate, adapt, and deliver value faster
  • Extensive experience with SQL and complex stored procedures
  • Development experience with one or more of the following: Java, C++, HTML, CSS, Smalltalk, Visual Basic, Oracle, Linux, .NET, and PHP
  • Tremendously strong ability to manage technical staff and projects to ensure alignment with deliverables and assigned tasks
  • Proven experience with system analysis, design, upgrade, and testing
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills to achieve business results
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with IT budgeting and financial planning
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • Historical consulting and/or senior management presentation experience
