Part-Time Web Producer

Since 1891, Carnegie Hall has set the international standard for musical excellence as the aspirational destination for the world’s finest artists. The Hall presents a wide range of performances each season on its three iconic stages, including concert series curated by acclaimed artists and composers; orchestral performances, chamber music, new music concerts, and recitals; and the best in jazz, world, and popular music. Complementing these performance activities, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute creates extensive music education and social impact programs that annually serve more than 800,000 people worldwide, playing a central role in fulfilling Carnegie Hall’s commitment to making great music accessible to as many people as possible.

The African American Music Timeline project presents the evolution of African American musical genres over the past 400 years and highlights significant musical, cultural, and political events that have taken place at Carnegie Hall over the past 130 years. The African American Music Timeline project is made possible through funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. Carnegie Hall has developed this dynamic tool for learning that will be accessible via our website. The part-time Web Producer is a 6- month creative role exclusively focused on supporting the African American Music Timeline by maintaining up-to-date, meaningful, and engaging content.

The Web Producer will be responsible for implementing content curation and updates on the African American Music Timeline website. The Web Producer is a member of the Digital Media Department and will work closely with the Carnegie Hall Archives team and engage with a team of scholars located across the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders to manage the planning and building of new pages as well as edits to existing pages.
  • Work closely with Digital Content and Engagement to ensure institutional application of the Carnegie Hall website style guide and best practices, including web content accessibility guideline.
  • Own the planning and execution of major web updates.
  • Contribute to curation and production of multimedia assets used in the timeline project.
  • Coordinate with Rights and Clearances for multimedia assets licensing needs.
  • Support Search Engine Optimization of web content.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with an enterprise-level Content Management System, preferably Twill.
  • Experience working with multimedia curation assets, includes integrating music, photograph, video selections.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS is required.
  • Familiarity with modern web best practices including design, SEO, and web content accessibility.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with African American music genres.
  • Passion for or interest in music, music history, and/or the arts a major plus.
