The Public Relations Associate is responsible for publicizing and providing service to CHC concerts and events, with a focus on music education and social impact programs created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI).  The role is also tasked with writing releases, interfacing with press, helping cultivate relationships with key journalists, pitching stories, and arranging interviews.  The Associate contributes to major CHC press releases, press kits, online and social media projects, and other institutional communications vehicles through writing assignments as assigned.  

Tasks Include: 

  • Publicize and service CHC concerts and events, specifically focusing on music education and social impact programs created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. 
  • Work closely with Associate Director as public relations point person for WMI programs. 
  • Participate in creation and implementation of publicity plans for large-scale creative learning projects, national and international education programs, early childhood concerts, programs in NYC schools, and music workshops in a variety of community settings, including homeless shelters, healthcare settings and correctional facilities. 
  • Provide support to Associate Director in publicizing and servicing CHC concerts and events tied to major festivals. 
  • Position involves frequent collaborative work with CHC partner organizations and city and state agencies.
  • Write press releases and monthly WMI newsletter, interface with press, pitch stories, answer questions, arrange interviews and photography, and complete artist research. 
  • Cultivate press relationships with education and social impact writers and contacts at local community publications.
  • Work closely with arts, education, and feature reporters in print, radio, online, and TV. 
  • Contribute to major CHC press releases and materials for press conferences, press kits, online and social media projects, and special writing projects as assigned. 
  • Assist Director with writing of institutional communications materials (program book, brochures, newsletters) as assigned.
  • Proofread CHC releases/written materials to assure accuracy; assist in answering departmental inquiries (general and media) and CHC Press duty.

Minimum 3-5 years of public relations experience, including proven success in managing projects from beginning to end and experience working directly with journalists; Excellent writing skills required; Experience working on social media projects, Experience with and/or commitment to social justice; Knowledge of classical music and/or arts education a plus; Strong organizational and people skills, including the ability to work with diverse constituents and partners; Computer knowledge, Internet savvy; Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
