(New York, NY, October 29, 2025)—From January 12–18, 2026, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI) presents the eighth year of SongStudio, an innovative program exploring the future of the vocal recital. The annual intensive workshop brings eight emerging vocalists and eight collaborative pianists from around the world together with leading artists, collaborative pianists, and coaches for a week of instruction and performance at Carnegie Hall. Countertenor and General Director and President of Opera Philadelphia Anthony Roth Costanzo returns for a second season to lead SongStudio, also having worked with the program in 2022.

2026 SongStudio events include:

  • Soprano Lisette Oropesa kicks off the week with an intimate public master class exploring what it means to give an extraordinary recital (Jan. 12).

  • Pianist Bryan Wagorn joins to share his excellent insight as one of today’s leading collaborative pianists (Jan. 13).

  • 2026 SongStudio Artistic Director Anthony Roth Costanzo returns to work with the artists in a public master class (Jan. 15).

  • Tenor Lawrence Brownlee rounds out the master classes, helping the exceptional artists hone their crafts (Jan. 16).

  • A culminating “Young Artists Recital” in Zankel Hall—directed by visual artist Doug Fitch known for his work with the New York Philharmonic, Santa Fe Opera, LA Opera, amongst others—showcases the accomplished artists performing wide-ranging song repertoire (Jan. 18).

All participating singers and pianists receive private lessons and coaching throughout the week. Mr. Costanzo and Mr. Wagorn work one-on-one with the artists along with pianist and scholar Javier Arrebola, who returns this season as SongStudio Artistic Advisor.

Following a rigorous audition process open to talented young singers and collaborative pianists from around the world, 16 artists have been selected to participate, with singers and pianists paired by faculty. Artists on the rise are given valuable access to world-class performers and composers through free workshops and master classes for young professional musicians (ages 18–35), created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI). Participants are selected after responding to an open call for auditions. SongStudio builds on the legacy of supporting young vocalists that renowned soprano Marilyn Horne sustained over two decades through her series, The Song Continues. Soprano Renée Fleming led SongStudio as Artistic Director for six seasons.
