Clive Gillinson on James Taylor's Perpectives

Singer-songwriter James Taylor first stepped on to the stage of Carnegie Hall in 1970 when he was only 22 years old. Although he was very young, James was already making an indelible mark on the American music scene, and from the beginning it was clear that he would quickly take his place among the finest artists of his generation.

A brilliant guitarist and great musical collaborator, his songs have become a soundtrack to the American experience, and his voice is now recognizable around the world. At the heart of his music making—one of the things we find most special—is how his songs have had such remarkable staying power, speaking to people of all ages, spanning generations. That his music is perhaps loved even more by audiences today than when he first started is a rare and significant statement, a true testament to the depth of his talent.

Since his debut, James has returned frequently to Carnegie Hall, and we were especially thrilled when he agreed to become a Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist this season, presenting four highly personal concerts in April and May that celebrate his true breadth as a musician and his evolution as an artist.

His series launches with a one-night-only Gala, specially created to celebrate 120 years of Carnegie Hall, highlighting many of the extraordinary musical and cultural events that have taken place on the Hall's legendary stages over the past 12 decades. This festive evening is followed by three performances that explore his early musical influences, his lifelong love affair with the guitar, and a lifetime of creating exceptional music with his legendary band.

We're grateful for the love, time, and energy that James has put into creating this special programming, and we're especially excited to share it with you.
