Kate Royal Explains A Lesson in Love

Kate Royal's May 20 recital—accompanied by pianist Christopher Glynn—is titled A Lesson in Love. Kate devised the program originally as a song cycle and concept album to link together songs of love. Presented in four chapters—Waiting, The Meeting, The Wedding, and Betrayal—each song in A Lesson in Love is sung from a young girl's point of view. It follows her relationship from the first thrill of blossoming love to the joy of love fulfilled, on to disappointment and anger when the relationship ends, and closes with a hint of optimism about the possibility of love in the future.
