The Carnegie Hall Season in Review

Kate Royal's concert on May 20 was the final Carnegie Hall presentation of a diverse and wonderful 2010–2011 season.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with Harnoncourt, Dudamel, and Lang Lang kicked things off in early October; Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra performed six Mahler symphonies in five concerts; JapanNYC brought a wealth of Japanese arts and culture to New York City and Orange County, California; Sweden came to New York with Leif Ove Andsnes and the Risør Chamber Music Festival; Christian Tetzlaff and James Taylor's Perspectives series demonstrated the eclecticism at play; and Brad Mehldau became the first jazz artist to hold The Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair.

We saw the world's greatest orchestras, ensembles, and soloists; legends of world, pop; and Carnegie Hall's commitment to new music.

Join us over the next few weeks as we revisit the high points of the season in every genre, and look forward to what's coming up in 2011–2012—our 120th anniversary celebration.

First up tomorrow will be the instrumental chamber music season at Carnegie Hall.
